1918 Metuchen Messenger – a Blast from the Past!

The Metuchen-Edison Historical Society, a non-profit Chamber Member, has some amazing items in its archives. Here’s a newsletter¬†put out by the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce on July 4th, 1918. Note that the parade included a contingent of Civil War veterans! You may recognize some names on the board of directors… Henry Rumler was later one-half of the partnership that built the Forum Theatre (it was FORgione and RUMler), and T.B. Van Kirk was a long-time superintendent of schools (his house still stands on Highland Avenue). Mook, Mundy, Breen, Powell, Drews, Kramer… Happy Reading!
